Frequently asked questions
What is physical theatre?
Physical theatre is an umbrella term that covers quite a diverse range of physical practices. The working definition that we use is it’s a mode of performance that uses the body as the primary mode of communication.
What is a young person?
You are as young as you feel! But for the sake of clarification, we refer to those under the age of 26 as ‘young’.
Can I do a Pop-up Workshop and the Physical Theatre Studio?
Absolutely! Whilst the two tend to cover similar territory, the focusses are much different. The Physical Theatre Studio focusses on a diverse range of skills investigated in an ensemble setting over a large amount of time whereas the Pop-up Workshops are great for exploring smaller and more specific ideas. The two complement each other very well without overlapping.
Is this a dance school?
No. Even though we occasionally use the word ‘choreography’, this is not a dance school. Though, both dance and dance theatre are spectacular forms that we draw inspiration from. Google Pina Bausch to see what we mean.
What will I need in class?
Some neutral movement clothes, something to write with and some water.
Will I be expected to prepare anything outside of class?
We try to keep this as minimal as possible. From time to time, you may be asked to bring something simple like an image or some text and that’s about it. In term 3 and 4, you are expected to manage your own private rehearsals so that you are best prepared to work during class time. These expectations and any other deadlines will be discussed with you in class well ahead of time.
What if minimum class sizes can’t be met?
Unfortunately, if class minimums are not met, courses will have to be cancelled or reschedule. We will always do our best to give you as much notification as possible if this happens. You can read our Terms of Service for more details.
What is the Physical Theatre Studio refund policy?
Please refer to our Terms of Service for our refund policy. Please note that the course deposit is not refundable.
Is financial assistance available?
Yes! Money should never be the barrier to great training. Payment plans are available on a case-by-case basis. Please send us an email so we can discuss the best options for you.
